Brendan Fraser plays a hapless actor who earns money in Japan by slipping into the roles of close relatives as a "family for hire".
Japan/USA 2025, Director: Hikari, Length: 103 minutes
DA: Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto and others.
Hapless actor Philipp Vandarpleog emigrates to Japan, where he struggles to keep his head above water after a cult appearance in a toothpaste commercial. Reluctantly, he grasps at the last straw and joins an agency that "rents out" relatives for a limited period of time. On behalf of a client, Philipp has to fake missing family members. A young Japanese woman chooses Philipp, who is a good 20 years older, as her groom for a simulated wedding celebration. The bride then spends her honeymoon with her true love, a woman. However, the story focuses primarily on two assignments in which the protagonist gets caught in a conflict between the booked role cliché and his authentic feelings for the clients.
