The end of the world not as a catastrophe, but as an opportunity for inventive collaboration.
USA 2026, Director: Phil Lord / Chris Miller, Length: 156 minutes
DA: Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub and others.
Ryland Grace awakens from an artificial coma in a spaceship - with no memory of who he is or how he got there. His hair growth suggests a long journey. But he is not an astronaut, he is a science teacher at a secondary school. Gradually it becomes clear that he is now the one who is supposed to find a way to stop the slow death of the sun and thus the extinction of humanity. The "Hail Mary" project is a last attempt to perhaps save the world from the next ice age after all. Twelve light years away from Earth, he realizes that he does not have enough fuel to return. Nevertheless, the movie remains light-heartedly playful and imaginative. His encounter with a strange spaceship brings him into contact with an alien who also wants to save his planet. Initially a fright, he then comes closer and hopes that he will not have to fulfill his mission alone.
