A universal story of a country and a couple in crisis, which sooner or later intellectuals all over the world can expect.
Germany/Turkey/France 2026, Director: Ilker Catak, Length: 126 minutes
DA: Özgü Namai, Tansu Bicer, Leyla Smyrna and others.
Derya and Aziz are at the center of the story: she is a celebrated actress at the Ankara State Theater, he not only writes highly acclaimed plays there, but also teaches at the university. The couple are an integral part of the cultural elite, naturally left-wing and critical of the government. But together with their teenage daughter Ezgi, they have made themselves a little too comfortable in their chic old apartment, while the country is increasingly plagued by terrorist attacks, police dispatches and ever more violent protests. But at some point, the heightened political climate also makes itself felt in their everyday lives. First Aziz is suspended from university without giving a reason, then his new play in which Derya plays the lead role is canceled from one day to the next and she is fired shortly afterwards. They also have to give up their apartment after a while and move in with Aziz's mother in Istanbul. There, money worries, lack of space and fears for the future do not leave the marriage unscathed.
