A haunting and courageous drama about a woman who has to overcome several existential crises at the same time.
Germany/Greece 2025, Written & directed by Nancy Biniadaki, Length: 121 minutes
DA: Sabrina Amali, Florian Stetter, Susanne Bormann, Maya Ghazal and others.
The film begins in an idyllic and peaceful way: a family romps around the lake, eating fries and ice cream, annoyed by a grumpy woman. The shots are close, the family looks wild and exuberant. Sitting on a bench, the couple hold hands a little furtively and yet very intimately. But already in the evening, disturbing feelings arise: Tobi had to work again and comes home tired, radiating unease. Maysoon probes and he confesses to having an affair with his boss. "We didn't want to say something like that to each other," Maysoon blurts out. But there is more. At the same time, her passport expires after the Egyptologist has lived quietly and solidly in Berlin for ten years. And then she loses her job as a museum guide because she can no longer stand the covert racism and lack of respect. She snaps, and not just once. She also overburdens her two children, the money threatens to run out, deportation becomes a possibility and her disappointment with Tobi is enormous.
