At some point, when Isaac has not been in the Schwarz family home for long, his father says an astonishing sentence to him: "Isaac, you have a special effect on people." He had never seen himself like this before. The world he has lived in so far has taught him to be unruly. He had to appear gruff in order to hold his own as a private in the army and among his friends. But ever since Isaac apologized for the carelessness with which he treated his paraplegic daughter Edith when they first met, he has been a welcome guest on the builder's estate. Edith impresses him: she is a fighter. She confidently lays down the rules on how to deal with her and challenges Isaac's sensitivity, allowing him to feel the satisfaction of reinventing himself.
