A future traveler recruits volunteers in a diner to help him save humanity from enslavement by artificial intelligence.
Germany/USA 2025, Director: Gore Verbinski, Length: 134 minutes
DA: Sam Rockwell, Juno Temple, Zazie Beetz and others.
He is a man from the future, announces the stranger who enters a diner in Los Angeles one evening. Looking like a bum, he does not attract the expected attention. It is only when he sprints across the tables and opens his raincoat to reveal that there are explosive devices attached to his body that people listen to him. He has a mission to save the world and needs volunteers to do so. In the end, the Nameless One has recruited a squad of seven people who he hopes will make the right combination to make the mission a success. The stranger quickly makes it clear where the end of the world is coming from: from an AI that will ultimately enslave the humans who willingly give up their autonomy for it. All the volunteers have already had dramatic experiences with supposedly advanced technologies, as we learn in flashbacks. Through their background stories, references can be made to very real visions of the future that are being discussed today.
