In her third feature film, Spanish director and screenwriter Carla Simon deals with her own family history in an impressive way.
Spain/ Germany 2025, Written & directed by Carla Simon, Length: 115 minutes
DA: Llucia Garcia, Tristan Ulloa, Mitch Martin, Sara Casanovas and others.
The film follows Marina, a carefree teenager and budding film student, who turns up in Vigo, Galicia in 2004 with her digital video camera and stumbles upon a family secret. Marina is looking forward to meeting her father Alfonso's family, whom she hasn't seen since she was a child. The real reason for her visit, however, is that she needs official documents to confirm Alfonso's paternity for her university scholarship. However, Marina's existence is missing from his death certificate, which she initially believes to be a bureaucratic error. However, she is shocked to discover that at least some of her relatives still do not recognize her as a family member. The opening scenes of the film are interspersed with quotes from the diary of Marina's late mother, in which she writes about her move to Vigo with Alfonso - Fon for short. These passages are taken from real letters written by Carla Simon's mother.
