Now the most successful sheep mystery of all time is coming to the big screen: Shepherd George is murdered—and his flock investigates.
Ireland/United Kingdom/Germany 2026, Director: Kyle Balda, Runtime: 110 minutes
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Emma Thompson, and others
Shepherd George’s animals are well-versed in mystery stories—after all, he reads them such tales every evening. He has no idea that the sheep actually understand him and enthusiastically discuss every case among themselves. But when George is found dead in the meadow one day, his flock—led by the sheep Lili and Mopple—makes it their mission to uncover the truth behind George’s death. In the process, they cut a better figure than village police officer Tim, who is thoroughly overwhelmed by George’s visiting daughter, a curious local reporter, and all sorts of suspicious neighbors—and could really use some animal help.
Just as freely as screenwriter Craig Mazin adapts the story, director Balda brings it to life with lightness and charm. While you never forget that the animals were created on a computer, the dialogue put into their mouths is definitely witty—and on top of that, the sheep have more depth than the characters played by their human counterparts. Both the humor and the mystery plot are very family-friendly, which is no disadvantage in the cozy crime genre.
We welcome our guests at the start of the season with a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice.
