The Christmas season has begun and with it the reflection on many traditions and customs. These are also the focus of the fourth "Christmas customs in Waren households" event at the Waren (Müritz) Town History Museum. This year, the focus is on the USA and the traditions that were brought to our town from there.
Unlike in Germany, Christmas is not necessarily the most important festival of the year there. Thanksgiving" - the harvest festival - is far more important and is a national holiday. Nevertheless, there are also many interesting customs and traditions on the other side of the Atlantic that people cultivate at Christmas time. You can find out what these customs and traditions are and what similarities and differences there are to our region on December 4, 2025 from 5 p.m. in the Waren Town Hall.
In a country of diversity, there are of course many different influences that come together. You can always get to know a culture through its cuisine, and the USA is no different. A big feast with family and friends is just as much a part of it here as Santa Claus and festive decorations - albeit sometimes a little excessive. How is Christmas celebrated in the north-east of the USA? What dishes are traditionally on the table? What special features are there that are perhaps not so well known in this country? And how has Christmas changed over the years?
The German-American Heidtmann family, who have lived in Waren (Müritz) for over two years, will take visitors on a short themed excursion across the pond. In the festively decorated town hall, Matthew and Sarah Heidtmann will talk about the diversity and peculiarities of American Christmas.
