The picture book "The Three Thieves" was far too short to be made into a long movie. So some things had to be made up. Now the horrible old aunt, who is not in the book, actually appears - as the screeching head of the orphanage. And the robbers have been given names: They are now called Malente, Donnerjakob and Flinn.
When Tiffany's parents are buried, it rains. Now the girl is all alone and is to be sent to an old aunt's orphanage. On the way there, the carriage is attacked by three robbers in the middle of a forest. All they really want is gold. But Tiffany uses a trick to persuade them to kidnap her. This is how she tricks her way into a new, somewhat unusual family. Because the robbers are actually quite nice.
But much has remained as we know it from the book: The robbers are still wrapped up in dark cloaks and wear large black hats, under which only their eyes are visible and sometimes a nose. And the dark colors, especially blue and black, still make the story very scary at the beginning.
How good that we still don't have to worry about Tiffany in her bright pink dress. She is a strong and courageous girl with lots of good ideas. Tiffany shows the robbers how to spend a gold treasure wisely and how important it is to have a family and friends. Because in this animated film, the children are much smarter than the adults.
