Exhibition

A small special exhibition with 100 chess sets from 1550 years of chess history and from 40 countries on all continents

There are chess museums in the towns of Löberitz and Ströbeck in Saxony-Anhalt and in Lohfelden in Hesse.
With our small exhibition, which is complemented by a stamp collection on the subject of chess, we would also like to present the game of chess in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As a special feature, we are showing a skat game with chess motifs. The exhibition is open from February 1st. Please make an appointment by telephone (039953/70331) or by email (peter.ramsch@t-online.de).
The chess set - Chaturanga - probably originates from North India from the year 450 A.D. We are showing a reconstruction of this chess set and next to it the oldest chess set in Europe and a chess piece from the German Middle Ages. Our exhibition includes 100 chess sets from 40 countries and a small collection of stamps and books about chess.
The materials from which chess pieces were made are interesting. Our collection includes pieces made of paper, cardboard, various woods, ceramics, porcelain, terracotta, earthenware, glass, hard rubber, plastic, polyrisin, plaster, brass, cast iron, tin, zinc, lead, iron, jade, soapstone, onyx, marble, limestone, sepiolite, walrus tusk, deer antlers, horn, shells and camel bone. Some representative chess boards and tables round off the exhibition.
