On September 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., the "Black Widow" will come to Kirch Stück for "Whispers from the Cemetery"
Kirch Stück: On Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., the Friends of the Church in Kirch Stück e.V. is hosting a very special event! We’ll meet at St. Georg Church in Kirch Stück, An der Chaussee 2, 19069 Kirch Stück, with the“Black Widow” for “Whispers from the Cemetery.”
The “Black Widow” is Dr. Anja Kretschmer-Rodenbröker from Bad Doberan. She is a cultural studies scholar who specializes in the scholarly examination of, among other things, historic burial crypts, the architectural and family histories of historic manor houses, as well as the development of burial customs up to the modern era.
In her “Cemetery Whispers” tour, she explores death and burial in earlier eras: mourning attendants, revenants, and funeral wreaths. The focus here is on the customs, traditions, and superstitions of our ancestors. How did our ancestors deal with the topics of dying, death, and mourning? What rituals existed? Do you know why you should never call a dying person by name, or what the dove has to do with death? Who or what are “Leichenbitter”? What are “Totenkronen”? And why were the deceased bound or had peas placed in their coffins? Many of these questions are answered and supplemented with fascinating firsthand accounts.
Everyone is warmly invited! Admission is free; at the end of the event, we will collect donations to cover the costs of the event and to fund construction projects in and around St. George’s Church in Kirch Stück.
This event is sponsored by the Northwest Mecklenburg District and the MV Volunteer Foundation.
