50 years of KARAT
Of course, when musicians from Panta Rhei and the Horst Krüger Band came together in East Berlin in the 1970s, it was not foreseeable that this new band would one day take its place in the annals of German popular music history. On the other hand, it soon became clear that great things were being created here. And by the beginning of the 1980s at the latest - just five years after the band was founded - KARAT were one of the most important German bands - in both East and West.
In 2025, guitarist Bernd Römer, drummer Heiko Jung, keyboardist Martin Becker, bass guitarist Daniel Bätge and singer Claudius Dreilich are celebrating a very special anniversary: 50 years of KARAT. In addition to an extensive birthday tour lasting the whole year, there will be an album with new songs and a new Karat book covering all five decades. And last but not least, KARAT will go on a big anniversary cruise: in May, the KARAT ship AIDAdiva will set sail for Norway.
50 years of KARAT not only stand for classics such as "Over Seven Bridges", "King of the World", "Der blaue Planet", "Schwanenkönig", "Albatros", "Jede Stunde" or "Mich zwingt keiner auf die Knie", countless awards and chart positions as well as over twelve million records sold, but also for a band that has arrived in the here & now with fresh ideas, unbridled passion and powerful energy.
