The Fritz Reuter Festival 2026
Knopf & Zopf, that's Karoline Frick (violin, nyckelharpa, mandolin, tap dance) and Gunnar Rieck (accordion with extended electronically playable sounds: double bass, guitar...).
"...The sounds of accordion and violin blend together. Powerful and lively, they fill the courtyard. Cheerful, full of longing and sometimes melancholy. They rise up and come back as an echo. Find an echo in the people who are gathered here and listen. Reaching their souls and bodies. Hardly anyone simply stands still. People clap, their eyes light up. The longing for a carefree life awakens again..."
This is the varied musical mixture of Knopf & Zopf, the result of the encounter between two thoroughbred musicians and their many years of experience with various ensembles and musical genres.
The original compositions in their program bear witness to influences from all over the world, which they skilfully and humorously blend to create their very own melange. Here, lively, stirring and Latin-American tangos meet Sinti-Jazz and Balkan grooves, swinging to melancholic musette waltzes meet swing and bossa nova rhythms and lively Irish-Scottish inspired reels and jigs meet bluegrass, country and blues. The two musicians conjure up a kaleidoscope of moods through their virtuoso and lively playing with a great deal of humor, spontaneity and improvisation.
