Two anniversary albums for Landdrost Robert Balck - photography of agriculture in the Güstrow region and Mecklenburg around 1900
A special kind of illustrated lecture.
André Adam, 2nd Chairman of the Association for Mecklenburg Family and Personal History, and Dr. Florian Ostrop, Managing Director of the Mecklenburg Foundation, present a volume of previously unpublished photographs from the agricultural sector in the Güstrow region and Mecklenburg around 1900.
In 1901 and 1906, farmers and schoolteachers compiled two magnificent photo albums for a leading regional official in Güstrow - with a total of over 100 portraits of people who bore responsibility for agriculture in Mecklenburg. In addition, there were almost 150 photos of villages and farms in the Güstrow region. The book highlights this double treasure for a wide audience.
In addition to the biography of Robert Balck - the recipient of the gift, who crowned his 50-year career with the rare title of Oberlanddrost - the volume contains biographical information on almost all of the donors. The catalog section with large-format photo reproductions of buildings, fields, people and animals provides an extraordinary insight into rural life in Mecklenburg 120 years ago.
The book presentation is being held in cooperation with the Barlachstadt Güstrow.
Admission is free.
