Böll Monday Cinema: “Garden of Hope”
Something unusual is happening in a prefab housing complex in Schwerin: People from different countries and social backgrounds are coming together to create a place where differences don’t divide, but enrich. This film tells the authentic stories of these neighborhood gardeners—with all their struggles, hopes, and surprising talents. Amid raised beds and tomato plants, friendships blossom that bridge social divides. Here, refugees and long-time residents, single parents and retirees, people with and without immigrant backgrounds come together.
In his “heartwarming cinematic journey,” Dieter Schumann has accompanied people in and around the “Garden of Hope” in Schwerin’s Großer Dreesch prefab housing estate. The Heinrich Böll Foundation MV and the Lichtspieltheater Wundervoll have invited the Mecklenburg-based documentary filmmaker to the Böll Monday Cinema for a post-screening discussion. The discussion will be moderated by Hella Rihl, director of the FiSH Film Festival.
