On Friday, May 15, 2026, the Berliner Vokalkreis will be performing in the Georgenkirche Waren (Müritz). The concert for choir and organ will begin at 5.00 pm and will move musically between jubilation and longing, lament and hope, between earth and heaven.
When the choir performs with the organ, it enters a space where time and eternity meet. This is particularly true of the works in the concert program "Blessed City, Heavenly Salem - O Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem", which come from very different cultural and musical contexts and yet are linked by a common theme: the longing for peace.
The concert title "Blessed City, Heavenly Salem - O Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem" refers to two biblical cities, two spiritual spaces: the earthly Jerusalem, the center of religious hope, but also of political tensions, and the heavenly Jerusalem, which is understood in the Christian tradition as a place of perfect communion with God. In between stands the human being - questioning, hoping, praying.
The works performed in the concert - by Parry, Bairstow, Vasks, Pärt, Vierne, Howells, Stanford and others - combine praise and lament, liturgical tradition and personal meditation, festive splendor and simple pleas.
The Berliner Vokalkreis under the direction of Johannes Raudszus and with Stefan Kießling on the organ would like to embark on a search for depth and truthfulness together with its audience in these multi-layered works. The ensemble wants to make something resound in the listeners that will remain.
Admission is free, donations are requested. Afterwards, the Förderverein Kirchenmusik Waren - St. Georgen invites you to join them at the wine bar in front of the Georgenkirche.
