An evening celebrating Wolf Biermann’s 90th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his expatriation: “Biermann without Biermann”

As a contemporary witness and longtime friend of 55 years, Ekkehard Maaß introduces the poet and composer Wolf Biermann and performs the most beautiful, some of which are little-known, against the backdrop of political events. Ekkehard Maaß experienced Wolf Biermann’s expatriation firsthand. He was expelled from Humboldt University for collecting signatures. Following this, he founded a literary salon in East Berlin modeled after Biermann’s apartment on Chausseestraße; the salon still exists today, and he has organized more than 150 events there on topics such as the history of the GDR, Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Israel, Georgia, and Ukraine.

In 2010, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his social activism.
