Ranji has to leave his beloved hometown of Mumbai and move to Berlin with his parents. There, his father has taken a well-paid job as a mathematician and raves about the opportunities—and the new apartment: “Great freedom, a big place, a great outlook on life!” Ranji, however, sees it differently: “Bunker.”
So when Ranji Ram (12) moves with his family from Mumbai to Berlin, the shy boy’s dream of a career as a Bollywood star comes to an end. Everyday life in Germany is nothing like the colorful, high-energy, glossy videos Ranji daydreams about day after day. And the other kids, especially the rough-and-tumble Toni (12), thwart Ranji’s secret efforts to record an audition video for the next Bollywood movie. Yet Toni herself is chasing a dream: she saves every euro she extorts from other children for a reconciliation trip for her separated parents. These two very different kids make each other’s lives a living hell, and it’s only when Ranji’s camera goes missing, Toni’s dad ends up in jail, and the deadline for the audition video is almost up that they realize they’re actually a great team…
