Excursion to the hibernating bats

What do bats actually do in winter? It's cold and there's nothing to eat. The bats prefer to sleep through this inhospitable time, snuggled up close to each other or in crevices, in a bunker or cellar. If you would like to see this with your own eyes, you now have the opportunity to do so in the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park: On Sunday, February 25, nature park manager and bat expert Ralf Koch will take interested visitors on a tour of bats in their winter quarters. The meeting point is at 9.30 am in the parking lot at the Karower Meiler. Then it's off to the mausoleum and a bunker in Karow and to a bunker in Wooster Teerofen in your own car or in carpools. Here, the hibernating bats are counted and Ralf Koch explains interesting facts about these cute animals. The excursion ends at around 12 noon.

This event is organized by the Natura2000 station for bats, which is based at the nature park administration in Karow. Registration is not required. Those interested should bring wellies, warm clothing and a flashlight.
