Opening of the swimming season
Brrrrr! You get cold just watching it. On the first day of the year, the brave, the crazy and the hardened plunge into the 4 °C Baltic Sea for a swim - a Prerow tradition!
Some people can't seem to wait. The swimming season on Prerow's north beach opens on January 1st every year. Hardy swimmers plunge into the 4°C Baltic Sea in swimming trunks, weird costumes or a nudist look. This is followed by splashing, screaming, laughing and whooping. As a reward, mulled wine, fire, music and the respect of the spectators await on the beach.
Originally, this was the New Year's dive organized by the Prerow diving club "Darßer Strandpiraten". Volunteer divers only joined spontaneously. Due to the often still poor visibility
conditions under water and the associated dangers for the divers, in recent years it has only been possible to go swimming. Every year, more and more water rats and, above all, onlookers follow the call of the spa and tourism company and stand on the shore shaking their heads or applauding.
