Tender, tragicomic, powerful melancholy in songs accompanied by a steel-stringed space guitar.
He lives on the outskirts of the Uckermark so he can set out every weekend with his guitar and a DB train ticket to play at various venues, clubs, and festivals. He doesn’t travel just anywhere—instead, he enjoys the strategic advantage of being situated right between Wenzel, Felix Meyer, and—yes—the soloist boss, Bruce. (Word of mouth). Even on his earlier albums, Bastian Bandt made no secret of his artistic affinities. But when you hear Wenzel or even Gundermann in his music, you don’t hear them in place of Bandt; rather, the Uckermark native enters into a dialogue with the artist from Lusatia and the one from Anhalt. They’re in good hands with him, to quote Hegel.
In homage, in self-assertion, in contradiction. (H.-M. Klemt) With his new album “Trauriges Tier,” at the very latest, he will be hailed in the arts sections of East German newspapers as one of the greats—one of the singer-songwriters who have something to contribute to East Germany’s search for identity. (M. Bruck) “Pferd & Haus”—the program for the 2026 tour and the title of the new album, which is expected to be released at the end of the year—once again deals a bit more with the world, politics, and their impact on the individual, as well as with home and East German biography, great love, and the act of moving forward again and again.
Wounded, out of place, virtuosic, and with plenty of gallows humor, Bastian Bandt sings and plays his way through an evening that is a true source of comfort and a delight in language, poetry, and music. Wild, tender, and determined to take things seriously. Without having to endure cynicism, his audience laughs and cries its way through the songs, stories, and adventures of the 48-year-old singer-songwriter—and into the warm certainty of not being alone.
Tickets are available at the Stralsund Tourist Information Center, online via Reservix and Eventim, as well as at the box office.
