Music Against Forgetting Concert featuring the winners of the International Performance Competition “Verfemte Musik Rostock” at the 8th KON-Takte Concert in Schwerin on November 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Brigitte Feldtmann Hall
The 8th concert in the KON-Takte series, taking place on November 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Brigitte Feldtmann Hall, is dedicated to musical remembrance. As part of the Festival of Ostracized Music, prize winners of the Rostock International Competition for the Performance of Ostracized Music will present a multifaceted program featuring works by composers whose music is marked by persecution, exclusion, exile, and the upheavals of the 20th century.
The spotlight will be on the Duo Laterne, featuring Zihao Wang (saxophone) and Xintian Zhu (piano). The two young musicians from Munich were awarded first prize at the first international competition. With their extraordinary combination of saxophone and piano, the duo focuses in particular on rarely performed repertoire and makes “outcast music” accessible to today’s audiences.
For the prize-winners’ concert, Wang and Zhu have selected works by Wolfgang Jacobi, Paul Ben-Haim, and Darius Milhaud. The program features Jacobi’s Sonata, Ben-Haim’s *Three Songs Without Words*, and Milhaud’s *Scaramouche*. The repertoire highlights both the stylistic diversity of 20th-century music and the varied life stories of the composers.
Other award winners will present music by Paul Hindemith, Dick Kattenburg, Kurt Weill, and Arnold Schoenberg.
The evening combines an exploration of the composers’ life stories with the perspective of a young generation of musicians. Their interpretations give a voice to this once-ostracized music and demonstrate just how vibrant and diverse this long-forgotten repertoire sounds again today.
The “Kreislaufhelden” team will provide the perfect culinary accompaniment before the event and during the intermission.
Admission to the event costs 12 euros; reduced-price tickets are 8 euros. Tickets can be purchased at the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus from Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Reservations are not accepted. Access to the Brigitte Feldtmann Hall is barrier-free.
