On June 3, 2026 at 6 pm, the Stralsund City Library will host a special author reading followed by a discussion. The author Nefeli Kavouras will present her highly acclaimed debut novel "Gelb, auch ein schöner Gedanke". The event will be moderated by Stefanie Jarantowski.
At the center of the novel is Georg, who has been seriously ill for years and whose death seems inevitable. While his wife Ruth cares for him at home with great devotion, their daughter Lea struggles with the desire for a life of her own. In this exceptional emotional situation, however, mother and daughter can hardly find each other. When something unexpected finally happens, the relationships within the family are fundamentally reorganized. In clear yet poetic language, Kavouras tells of grief, anger, shame and love - and of how loss changes people.
Nefeli Kavouras is already known in the literary scene as a committed mediator and moderator. With her debut novel, she impressively demonstrates her own narrative talent. The manuscript was awarded the Hamburg Literature Prize in 2023 and earned her an invitation to the Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt in 2025. The work has also been nominated for the lit.Cologne debut prize in 2026.
Admission to the event is 6 euros. Tickets are available in advance during service hours at the Stralsund City Library. Reservations can only be made by e-mail to stadtbibliothek@stralsund.de. Please note that reserved tickets must be collected by May 26, 2026 at the latest.
