"Self-Care Beach Guide—Prora Seaside Resort"
SELF CARE STRANDBEFEHL celebrated its world premiere in January 2024 at the Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden. The play by fachbetrieb rita grechen tells the long history of the “KdF seaside resort” in Prora, from its founding as a Nazi vacation machine and instrument of Nazi propaganda to its capitalist co-optation as a modern-day vacation destination. In its original form, the play is designed for a stage space. In Prora, the play can be performed at the actual site of the events and requires no artificial stage set. For this reason, the touring version of SELF CARE STRANDBEFEHL was conceived as an audio walk with performative elements. Rather than sitting in chairs in a theater auditorium and watching a play, the audience experiences an adapted version of SELF CARE STRANDBEFEHL at various locations and can directly perceive the building and grounds from different perspectives.
