On the 4th weekend of Advent, the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum opens its doors for 2 atmospheric market days with arts and crafts, music, treats and family offers.
The air is filled with the scent of cinnamon, mulled wine, all kinds of pastries, bratwurst, and hay. Visitors browse and marvel at the artisans’ market stalls at this special Advent market. Music plays in the background, punctuated here and there by the laughter of children. Anyone who has ever visited the traditional “wintersonnenWERKE” artisan market at the Mueßer Open-Air Museum usually comes back again and again. Every year, many visitors appreciate the cozy, family-friendly atmosphere among the festively lit farmhouses and barns during the winter solstice.
If you’re still looking for that unique gift idea for under the tree just before Christmas, this Advent market offers plenty of inspiration. Visitors will find accessories and one-of-a-kind pieces here that can’t be found anywhere else. Many natural materials, rustic and fascinating. Rare pieces, elaborately crafted and combined with various materials. Artists and artisans present their products made of amber, gemstones, glass, ceramics, metal, paper, linen, wool, and silk in the houses and on the market square…
There is something to discover everywhere. In the kitchen of the Büdnerei, the historical reenactors from the Freundeskreis Zeitreise Mueß are cooking and baking all sorts of treats to taste and snack on over the old hearth, just as they would have in 1900. In the historic village smithy, the master blacksmith works with red-hot iron. In the warm parlor, songs ring out—perhaps even for you to sing along to—and you can hear Christmas stories, perhaps even in Low German. There are craft activities, a children’s carousel, a demonstration spinning mill... Here and there, live music plays, inviting you to linger in a festive, cozy, and dimly lit atmosphere. Buildings, trees, and the bustling market are enchantingly illuminated.
With an admission ticket for 2 EUR for everyone 140 cm or taller, visitors automatically enter the raffle. Artisans and the open-air museum contribute original and surprising prizes and giveaways.
The "wintersonnenWERKE" arts and crafts market is open on the 4th weekend of Advent: Saturday, December 19, 11 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sunday, December 20, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
