For nine days, studios, galleries, and church spaces in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will open their doors for KUNST HEUTE. In Barth, Kunstkonsum, the Kavaliershaus, and painter Sabine Knapp will showcase their current works. You’ll get to meet the artists in person and watch them at work.
The KUNST HEUTE initiative, a program dedicated to contemporary art throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is taking place for the 18th time. Since 2008, the series has been organized jointly by the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK MV), the Association of Art Museums, Galleries, and Art Societies, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Literature Council, the Association of Castles, Estates, and Manor Houses, and the Nordkirche. Across the state, around 125 venues will open their doors, with approximately 350 artists showcasing their work in studios, museums, churches, castles, and manor houses. The goal of the project is to bring contemporary art to a wider audience and to connect artists with established art and cultural venues.
Barth is also participating this year with several venues.
At Kunstkonsum, the shop-studio of Heilke Freia Heller and Stefan Reiter on Badstüberstraße right in the Old Town, the exhibition “Neue Abstrakte” will run from October 3 to 11. On display are recent works of abstract painting and artistic photography. Both artists will be present in person during opening hours, Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kunstkonsum is located at Badstüberstraße 85/87, at the corner of Lange Straße.
At the Kleiner Kavalier, photographer Annette Zacharias is presenting works on Hahnemühle paper under the title “LOOK AT US,” which combine nature photographs with everyday scenes—such as people looking down at their smartphones. In addition, workshops for children and adults will be held on papier-mâché, modeling, photography, drawing, stamping, and textile printing. The “Kleiner Kavalier” in the Kavaliershaus at Klosterstraße 4 opens irregularly—whenever the door is open.
Under the title “Resonanzräume,” painter Sabine Knapp presents works in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and paper that allow visitors to experience nature as an inner resonance space. The exhibition venue in Barth has not yet been determined.
In addition, the Vineta Community Center is hosting a group exhibition by Barth artists from Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
