On Slavic traces: Your archaeology tour at Cape Arkona | Thursdays 23.07. - 20.08.2026 from 14:00 - 17:00
Join us on a discovery tour right on the cliffs of Cape Arkona and experience history where it happened!
Forget dry dates! On this hike, you will experience the past with all your senses. We take you along the cliffs of Cape Arkona to the remains of Jaromarsburg, the sacred cult site of the Ranen.
What awaits you on the tour:
- The myth of Svantovit: you stand directly in front of the mighty, 12-metre-high castle rampart. We look together at the archaeological finds to understand how magnificent the temple of the god Svantovit really was and how brutal its downfall was.
- The ship graveyard beneath you: As we walk along the high bank path, we take a look beneath the surface of the water. Between the cape and Lohme lie at least 40 wrecks and historical finds that tell of centuries past.
- Descent to the fishing village of Vitt: We hike into the picturesque, listed village. You will learn all about the Slavic roots of Vitt, the rune-like house marks of the fishermen and the chapel, which is inextricably linked to the poet Kosegarten.
The tour is led by Katrin Staude. Born in Stralsund and a qualified archaeologist and research diver, she is passionate about the monuments of her homeland. Through her work on large underwater projects and her time as a lecturer, she brings you real expertise, directly from the excavation edge and the seabed.
