Aperto Piano Quartet — "refined sound and sensitive ensemble playing" (Joachim Wormsbächer, FAZ)
The Aperto Piano Quartet was founded in 2000 by pianist Frank-Immo Zichner. His passion for chamber music has, alongside his career as a soloist, repeatedly brought him together with prominent chamber musicians and strengthened his desire to found his own ensemble. Over the years, the Aperto Piano Quartet has matured into an ensemble characterized by “refined sound and sensitive ensemble playing” (Joachim Wormsbächer, FAZ).
Today, the Aperto Piano Quartet’s repertoire includes not only the great Classical and Romantic piano quartets. Works by forgotten composers, such as the chamber music of Hans Gál or Konstanty Regamey, have been performed and recorded by the APQ. The ensemble has consistently championed the expansion of the piano quartet repertoire. Piano quartets dedicated to the APQ have been composed by Elena Mendoza, Krzysztof Meyer, and Christian Jost, among others.
Numerous CDs document the ensemble’s musical output. Some of them have been nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award.
The Aperto Piano Quartet has performed in various European countries and at international festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
Since 2025, the Aperto Piano Quartet has performed in the following lineup: Frank Reinecke on violin, Stefan Fehlandt on viola, Stephan Forck on cello, and Frank-Immo Zichner on piano.
