Exhibition Opening
Antje Cremer, born in 1959, lives and works in Hilden near Düsseldorf and in Prerow on the Darß peninsula. Her family hails from a village near Rostock—with a documented history dating back to the 17th century—and although she has traveled to many parts of the world, no landscape has moved her as much as this one. In the exhibition “Land im Licht,” she presents works depicting the beech forests along the western beach, the Prerow River, and the Baltic Sea coast. Her painting carries on the tradition of the Ahrenshoop women painters, translating it into a contemporary Fauvism: A forest path that appears merely brown at a fleeting glance reveals shades of pink, orange, yellow, blue, and green upon closer inspection—she brings these colors to life. Alongside the landscape-based works, the exhibition features paintings created purely intuitively that push the boundaries of abstraction. Central themes are always light and paths. For paths are transitions—and in the process of painting, too, the journey is the destination. The exhibition can be visited until April 2, 2028, during regular opening hours.
