To mark the Schifferkirche’s anniversary year, Director of Church Music Anne-Dore Baumgarten and cellist Jonas Seeberg invite you to a concert that showcases the church’s acoustic spaces in a unique way. Playing the Wegscheider organ and the cello, the two musicians will present a program featuring works by Antonio Vivaldi, György Ligeti, and Robert Schumann, as well as other composers—a journey from the Baroque through the Romantic period to the sounds of the present day.
Anne-Dore Baumgarten, director of church music emerita from Wittenberg who has called Wustrow on the Fischland her home for many years, founded the Ahrenshoop Organ Festival and has had a decisive influence on the musical life of the Schifferkirche. Jonas Seeberg, who trained in Munich, Berlin, and the U.S.—including with Bernard Greenhouse, co-founder of the legendary Beaux Arts Trio and a master student of Pablo Casals—served as principal cellist for several European orchestras and, since 2023, has performed exclusively as a soloist and chamber musician. He plays a cello by Matteo Goffriller, Venice, 1700.
The organ and cello form a sonic pairing that is particularly striking in the light, wood-paneled atmosphere of the Schifferkirche in Ahrenshoop. The dialogue between the Wegscheider organ and the deep, resonant sound of the cello creates an evening that, on the occasion of the church’s 75th anniversary, is dedicated equally to the town and its music.
