Photography, Watercolors, and Photomontage
Anne-Kathrin Benz, born in 1963 in Rostock, holds a degree in agricultural engineering. After living in Berlin and Dresden, she has been back home on the Baltic Sea for the past eight years. “The coast has always been the landscape of my dreams. Where land and sea meet, nothing remains unchanged; everything is in motion and in constant flux. Yet it is precisely here that I find my inner peace.”
From the very beginning, photography has served as a tool for mental focus. Out in the great outdoors, often by the water, the photographer captures with a keen eye the moment when surfaces and colors both define and blend into one another—only to flow into an entirely different image in the very next second. Blurred contours and deliberately applied soft focus give some of the photos the appearance of Impressionist or abstract paintings.
Numerous exhibitions, primarily in and around Dresden, Berlin, and along the Baltic Sea coast, form part of Anne-Kathrin Benz’s photographic body of work. In recent years, her artistic palette has been supplemented and expanded to include watercolors and works in which photographs are altered using pen and brush. In this way, not only do contours and colors dissolve, but genre boundaries dissolve as well. The result is images that draw their inspiration and form from the reflection of the inner world right from the start.
