Opening of FANTAKEL—the 18th Puppet Theater Festival in Greifswald
Jana Sonnenberg & Robert Richter, ages 9 and up
Anna loves to sew. But most of the time she has to clean, tidy up, or do the laundry, says her stepmother, Beatrix von Asche. She and her daughters, Amy and Astrid, on the other hand, order clothes every day and have Anna send everything back.
Finally! An invitation to the prince’s ball arrives in the mail. Of course, this calls for the perfect outfit. Her father immediately heads back into town to buy everything she wants. There’s no doubt about it—one of her stepsisters will marry the prince.
Can Anna go to the ball, too?
The Grimm fairy tale is retold here with a focus on fashion, beauty, and self-improvement—elements already present in the original.
What does it take to belong to a certain social circle? How do you connect with those around you? Do you actually have to go along with all of this?
*Anna Aschenputtel* humorously, yet with the necessary seriousness and plenty of play ideas, the characters in the Asche patchwork family—those who have uncritically succumbed to the spirit of the times and consumerism, the one who has remained silent for far too long, and the one who breaks free from this construct.
The fairy-tale character and magic are preserved and gently transposed into the present day.
