The political farce *Ein Volksbürger* is based on the widely acclaimed research by the Verfassungsblog team led by Maximilian Steinbeis. Through a series of press conferences, the story recounts the rapid rise of a populist minister-president and the resulting threat to democracy. The politician’s high-handed actions challenge the federal government and could lead to the invocation of Article 37 of the Basic Law—which has never been applied before— allowing the federal government to impose its will.
*Ein Volksbürger* is an experimental production with enormous political significance. Actor Fabian Hinrichs portrays the main character as a charismatic seducer who undermines the political system with charm and intelligence. This character exudes a dangerous fascination that compels his opponents to take drastic measures.
The film version—nominated for the Theatertreffen and the Friedrich-Luft Prize in 2025—will be screened, followed by a panel discussion.
