Festive Advent and Christmas Concert by the Samtens Women's Choir by Candlelight
"Christmas Wishes" with the Samtens Women's Choir: Officially, the first Sunday of Advent doesn't begin on Sunday itself, but on the evening before at 6 p.m. And so, right on time at that hour, the well-known Samtens Women’s Choir will kick off this year’s Advent season on Saturday, November 28, in the candlelit church in Kasnevitz. On Saturday, December 5, the program will be repeated at 3 p.m. in the Samtens village church, and on Sunday, December 6, at 5 p.m. in the church in Waase on Ummanz; on December 8 at 7 p.m. at “Wohnen mit Service” in Bergen; and on December 19 at 4 p.m. at the Kutterschnute in Waase. The program once again features wonderfully beautiful and atmospheric melodies and lyrics and is themed “Wishes for the Christmas Season.” The hit song of the same name by Udo Jürgens will be the first highlight of the concert. There will also be many other highlights, including traditional songs, Christmas compositions by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as “Mitten in der Nacht” by Rolf Zuckowski and “Hört es klingt am Himmelszelt” by Boney M. Known for its beautiful and expressive choral singing—which has been further refined under the new choir director Alex Bergstedt—the Samtens Women’s Choir is once again pulling out all the stops to offer concertgoers an unforgettable Advent concert. As a result, the choir’s repertoire includes both velvety-soft romantic melodies and lively, spirited songs. As always, there will also be sing-alongs and contemplative texts and poems.
Admission to the concert is free, but of course the choir welcomes donations at the exit. The churches will be festively lit for Christmas but quite chilly, so warm clothing—and perhaps even a pillow or blanket—are highly recommended.
