Concert by the Sol Sayn Gelebt Duo
Klezmer originated in the Eastern European shtetls and was played at Jewish weddings by traveling musicians known as klezmorim. Due to diverse influences from other and neighboring cultures, klezmer music has been—and continues to be—in a state of constant evolution, and so the program spans a wide range, from melancholic klezmer melodies to fiery dances from all over Eastern Europe, all the way to tango and swing from the Yiddish theater in New York.
The Duo Sol Sayn Gelebt from Bremen will perform, featuring Susanne Sasse on the accordion and Martin Kratzsch on the clarinet. Susanne Sasse, a trained drummer, percussionist, and accordionist, is musically at home in many groups. Whether it’s Latin, swing, or klezmer, she feels right at home in the world of rhythms and brings them to life on stage with an impressive presence and great passion. Martin Kratzsch initially worked in classical music before discovering klezmer for himself many years ago.
His playing on the clarinet is characterized by his ability to shape and bring to life the diverse melodies of klezmer—with their distinctive timbres—combined with ease and virtuosity. Together, Susanne Sasse and Martin Kratzsch have been giving concerts and workshops throughout Germany and abroad for many years.
