On Geotope Day, the Müritzeum invites you to take a walk with a geological view through the old town of Waren.
The stones built into the old and new walls of the town could tell many an exciting geological story if you could hear and understand them. One person who can read is Bastian Bruckhoff, a geologist who works in the geological collection at the Müritzeum. On a walk through the old town on Sunday, September 21, Geotope Day, he will draw participants' attention to the geological features and tell them the exciting facts about them. The walk will take you from Waren to Italy, Scandinavia, America and far back in time to the Ice Age - but only in your mind. The structurally used rocks, also known as boulders, are witnesses to the recent geological past and the glaciations associated with it. And they contain a wealth of cultural and historical information. Bastian Bruckhoff will give walkers an insight into the raw materials formed during the ice age and their use.
For the one-and-a-half hour tour starting at 10 a.m., you should wear comfortable shoes and be sure to register in advance at the Müritzeum, preferably by telephone on 03991 633 680. The offer is free of charge.
If you would like to delve even deeper into the history of the rocks of our homeland afterwards, we recommend the current special exhibition "Eugen Geinitz - Exploring the Ice Age Landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" and the permanent exhibition at the Müritzeum.
