What began on February 12, 1962 with a decision by the SED district leadership in Neubrandenburg with the research assignment "From the market cooperative to the socialist village" in Alt Schwerin, was renamed the "Agricultural History Collection" on the occasion of Walter Ulbricht's 70th birthday on June 30, 1963. On the occasion of Walter Ulbricht's 70th birthday on June 30, 1963, the "Agricultural History Collection", a branch of the Müritz Museum, was opened in Alt Schwerin. This laid the foundation for "a somewhat different open-air museum". The entire village of Alt Schwerin with its almost completely preserved estate was to be included in the concept. The historical documentation focuses on the development of the region as a cultural landscape, social structures and "agricultural practice" up to the present day. A broad field that had to be "plowed" in a qualified and lively manner. Today's AGRONEUM, as one of the most attractive agricultural history museums with its unique position in many exhibition areas, proves that this has been fully achieved over the past 60 years.

And they have it all. The spectrum ranges from heavy agricultural machinery, numerous tractors and every conceivable type of (large) agricultural equipment and machinery to agricultural aircraft - but there are also the wonderful "immobile exhibits", the historic residential and commercial buildings, some of which have been relocated. One particular highlight is the reapers' barracks. Built in 1904 for the estate's harvest workers, it has housed an exhibition entitled "5,000 years of agriculture in Mecklenburg" since 1988 (still in its original state!).

The special exhibition offers a look at the development of the AGRONEUM Alt Schwerin and reviews the past 60 years in a lively and relaxed way. Special emphasis is placed on the diverse events, which are documented by numerous video contributions. After all, the AGRONEUM is a hands-on museum. Especially when the special events really get going on the large outdoor area. For example, the heath shakes when the "big ones" are in action during the "Cold Blood Days". Or when it's full steam ahead during the "International Steam Days". Friends of historic tractors will also get their money's worth. The big classic car meeting is great fun for tractor fans young and old.

And then there are the flower, pumpkin, slaughter and potato festivals, which delight many thousands of visitors every year.
