Castle tour and program about Matthias Claudius

The “Klinkowström Day” is taking place for the fourth time at the Ludwigsburg Palace and Estate. This year’s theme is “Contemporaries.”

On Sunday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m., the Friends of the Castle Association is offering a guided tour of the castle that focuses on the period when the estate belonged to the father of Friedrich August von Klinkowström (1776–1810/11). To complement this, sculptures by Kerstin Nankemann and Hilde Uebel (Pommerscher Künstlerbund e. V.) are on display in the palace, depicting the “Trio of North German Romanticism.”

The tour will be followed by a break in the castle courtyard. The Friends of the Castle Association will be selling coffee and cake.

At 5:00 p.m., the independent theater ensemble “CERCA DIO” from Dresden will perform a program about Matthias Claudius (1740–1815) and his evening song “Der Mond ist aufgegangen” in the castle chapel (Kirchweg 6a). CERCA DIO will perform with Johannes Gärtner and Elke Zeh (acting), Elena Patsalidou (vocals), Ekaterina Gorynina (cello), and Olga Bille (piano). The program will feature songs and texts by the “Wandsbecker Bote.” As a musical echo, the evening song will be performed in several variations, along with works by contemporary composers.

We do not know whether Friedrich August von Klinkowström and Matthias Claudius ever met. But it is possible. Klinkowström’s friend, the Wolgast painter Philipp Otto Runge, had met Claudius during his apprenticeship. Runge and Klinkowström stayed in Hamburg together on several occasions in the early 19th century.

Admission to Klinkowström Day is free—thanks to a donation from the Dr. Karl-Heinz and Margot Bohne Foundation (Hamburg). Registration is not required.
