Robert Schumann: Overture to Genoveva op. 81
Magnus Lindberg: Clarinet Concerto (2001/02)
Robert Schumann: Symphony no. 2 in C major op.61I have been cramming and trumpeting for a few days; I don't know what will come of it, wrote Robert Schumann to his friend Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, thus announcing the first ideas for his new symphony in C major. With the completion of the work, the Saxon Romantic composer had simultaneously overcome a severe depressive phase and was soon able to devote himself to the Genoveva opera project. However, only the overture survived in the repertoire. Ambitious and progressive, it is considered the best of the opera and surprises with its fresh gesture.
In the Philharmonic's December concert, conducted by Regensburg General Music Director Stefan Veselka, Schumann's Romanticism is framed by the clarinet concerto by the Finn Magnus Lindberg - one of the most important voices among 21st century composers (The Times). One of the most sought-after clarinettists, multiple ECHO and OPUS Klassik prizewinner Sebastian Manz, will bring Lindberg's magical sound cosmos inspired by Finnish nature to the Rostock stage.
