Chamber music with string quartets
Emilie Mayer between Vienna and Mecklenburg |String Quartet in E minor (1851) and A major (1856) by Emilie Mayer (1812-1883) | Performers: The Wave Quartet Vienna and the Teva Quartet Rostock
The 4th birthday salon for Emilie Mayer aims to anchor the composer's birthday permanently in the cultural consciousness of the region and to keep her musical legacy alive in her birthplace. High-ranking chamber music works from the composer's mature creative phase will be performed.
The 4th birthday salon is also embedded in an international exchange and master class project initiated by the Emilie Mayer Society. An artistic exchange between the Rostock University of Music and Performing Arts and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna is taking place as part of an EU-funded master class.
The performing ensembles are the TEVA Quartet (ensemble of the Rostock University of Music and Performing Arts) and the WAVE Quartet (ensemble of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna). The concert thus brings together outstanding young musicians from two internationally renowned music academies. This connection between the two universities also draws on Emilie Mayer's historical relationship with Vienna: As early as 1856, she spent three months in Vienna at the invitation of Archduchess Sophie - on the recommendation of the Prussian Queen Elisabeth.
