Brunnenaue has been part of Stralsund for over 300 years. 300 years of constant change and renewal in the same place. Originally located in the forecourt of the fortress in front of the Knieper Gate, it later became the first public park in a city expanding beyond its walls, and today serves as both a haven of tranquility and a link between the suburbs and the Old Town. Many of the historical traces can still be found, telling the stories of what lies hidden in plain sight.
Set against the backdrop of the city’s settlement and cultural history, this walking tour traces the long journey from the wooden “Gesundbrunnen” to the concrete fountain, making the development of this part of Stralsund—known as the Brunnenaue—clear and accessible.
