Anniversary Concert: "Così fan tutte—The School for Lovers" by W. A. Mozart
On November 15, 2006, the then-director Karl-Heinz Mintert and nine culture enthusiasts founded the “Zarrentiner Kulturverein e.V.” The goal was to establish the restored Cistercian monastery as a cultural hub and to enrich cultural life in Zarrentin.
Under the first president, Peter Becher, a diverse program of events took shape. Beginning in 2008, Prof. Florian-Malte Leibrecht shaped the association with concerts, young artists, and expert introductions.
Today, Birgit Struck-Henning heads the association. Despite growing membership and numerous cultural offerings, volunteer commitment remains crucial to ensuring the high quality of cultural life at Schaalsee.
To mark its 20th anniversary, the association is continuing a time-honored tradition: providing a stage for young singers. The vocal class of the Music School of the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg, under the direction of Ulrich Kratz, will present Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” in its own production.
Mozart’s 1790 opera puts the fidelity of two couples to the test: Ferrando and Guglielmo are persuaded by Don Alfonso to make a wager; they feign their departure and return in disguise to seduce each other’s lovers. The game turns into an experiment in love, jealousy, and self-deception.
After the performance, the Zarrentiner Cultural Association invites everyone to join them for drinks at the monastery.
Admission is free; donations are welcome. Tickets—which are required for admission—will be available free of charge starting November 2, 2026, from Ms. Liesener at Angelbedarf, Post und Schreibwaren, Hauptstraße 1 in 19246 Zarrentin; phone: 0177 – 3478574.
