Lorenz Kellhuber,
born in Munich in 1990 as the son of two church musicians, Kellhuber began classical piano training at the age of five. At 8, he played his first concert and began composing.
At age 11, he became a junior student at the HfKM in Regensburg; later, he studied with Prof. Franz Massinger in Munich. He was then discovered by Rob Bargad (Nat Adderley Quintet) and received intensive training in jazz stylistics. At age 16, Kellhuber passed the gifted student exam and became a bachelor’s student at the Jazz-Institut-Berlin. In 2010, he completed his studies as one of the youngest bachelor’s graduates worldwide. Since 2012, he has released a total of seven albums, one EP, and several single tracks. He teaches at the HfKM Regensburg, the University of Regensburg, and the HfM Nuremberg, and has been a lecturer at the MH Lübeck since 2020. In the winter semester of 2021, Kellhuber was appointed professor of practical piano instruction at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden.
Felix Henkelhausen,
born in Oldenburg in 1995, received classical piano and cello lessons before his interest in the double bass was piqued. At age 16, he began studying as a young student at the HfK in Bremen.
From 2014 to 2019, he studied at the Jazz Institut Berlin. Despite his young age, Henkelhausen has already performed both domestically and abroad with nationally and internationally renowned artists such as Andrea Parkins, Dave Liebmann, Eric McPherson, Gebhard Ullmann, Hubert Nuss, Jim Black, Jochen Rückert, Kathrin Pechlof, Lotte Anker, Marc Copland, Nate Wooley, Oli Steidle, Pablo Held, Peter Schlamp, Philipp Gropper’s Philm, Toby Delius, and many others. Henkelhausen is a member of numerous bands, including Liun and the Science Fiction Orchestra, the Lorenz Kellhuber Trio, Stefan Schultze Large, Jim and the Shrimps, the Bram de Looze Trio feat. Eric McPherson, Nate Wooley’s Knknighgh, and Tau5. In February 2023, he was nominated for the German Jazz Prize in the bass category.
Moritz Baumgärtner,
born in Zurich in 1985, began studying classical drums at age 9. From 2006 to 2010, he studied at the Jazz Institut Berlin. With his highly personal sound aesthetic, his unique melodic playing, and his unconventional creative drive, he has quickly established himself on the international scene. Baumgärtner is a founding member of the Melt Trio and the Lisbeth Quartet, which has been active since 2007. The latter received an ECHO Jazz Award in 2012 and 2018. The Melt Trio won the German Jazz Prize in 2023 for one of its albums. He can be heard on over 60 international CD recordings and has toured with renowned musicians and bands. His international tours have taken him to the U.S., South America, Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China, Mexico, Guatemala, Russia, Ukraine, Haiti, Norway, Romania, Denmark, Sweden, and England. Moritz Baumgärtner is also active as a lecturer and was appointed professor at the Nuremberg University of Music in 2022.
