20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Karin Eppler based on motifs by Jules Verne from 8 years Premiere15. February 2026

"We are at the bottom of the sea. A true universe within itself."

We are in the year 1868 and the latest newspaper reports tell of the eerie disappearance of ships on the high seas! Where have the ships gone? The young researchers Nadine and Pierre have many theories as to what could be behind this: Is there a monster in the sea? Is this monster eating the ships? Who has seen the monster? A giant octopus, a whirlpool?
They sneak to the harbor and board the ship as stowaways. It's not long before their boat is attacked by the "monster". They only regain consciousness on board a strange ship: the much sought-after murderous monster is actually an incredible submarine, fabulous and beautiful. The "Nautilus"! A submarine in a class of its own! Pierre and Nadine meet the mysterious Captain Nemo. But once you've seen his submarine, you can never return to the surface. There would be no way up anyway. Who can hold their breath for 20,000 miles?

With his third production at the Junges Staatstheater Parchim and set designer Marie-Luce Theis, David Stöhr will transport the audience into an imaginative underwater world.
