When historic engines roar, lovingly maintained classics gleam, and a passion for cars meets maritime charm, it’s time once again for the classic car rally at the phanTECHNIKUM. On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Technical Museum invites classic car enthusiasts from across the region to Wismar for the eleventh time. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum grounds will transform into a lively gathering place for drivers, families, tech fans, and nostalgia enthusiasts.
As early as the morning, the gates of the phanTECHNIKUM will open to numerous historic vehicles—from lovingly restored two-wheelers to impressive four-wheeled classics. But the classic car rally has long been more than just a drive: it is a celebration for all interested parties and one of the highlights of the museum’s annual calendar.
Even visitors without their own vehicles will get their money’s worth. On the outdoor grounds, guests can look forward to a varied supporting program featuring interactive stations, culinary offerings, and exciting encounters centered on technology and mobility.
The museum café phanPRANDIUM will provide refreshments with food and drinks for short and long breaks in between.
The Technisches Landesmuseum MV e.V. museum association invites visitors to participate with a raffle and activity booth.
The experience will be particularly impressive at the intoxication course run by Verkehrswacht Wismar & Umgebung e.V. Here, guests can experience how perception and reaction times change under the influence of alcohol—a contribution to traffic safety that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking.
Photographer Marc Kairies brings a piece of living photographic history to Wismar. Using his historic Cámera Minutera, he creates instant photos based on the technology and style of the 1910s—handmade memories with a special charm and a soothing aesthetic.
The classic car scene itself is also present: 79 Oktan – The Magazine for East German Classic Cars is supporting the event with its own booth and invites visitors to share stories about historic vehicles and automotive history. Additional hands-on activities and surprises will make the museum grounds an experience for the whole family throughout the day.
The centerpiece of the event remains, of course, the grand drive by the rally participants: For the classic car rally, the phanTECHNIKUM team searches every year for the most beautiful routes in Northwest Mecklenburg—and in 2026, a particularly charming route with guaranteed ocean views awaits.
From Wismar, the drive first leads via Zierow and Beckerwitz along the Wohlenberger Wiek to Boltenhagen. There, Ostseeallee will become a lively catwalk for classic car fans on this day. Against a maritime backdrop, the historic vehicles will be on display before the route continues along picturesque coastal roads toward Kalkhorst. The destination for this year’s stop is the historic Groß Schwansee estate—a place that, with its blend of nature, history, and architecture, seems tailor-made for a leisurely break.
In addition to the traditional photo stop, a special highlight awaits participants there: they will become part of the Midsummer Remise. Between the castle grounds and historic buildings, there will be time to stroll, chat about cars, and enjoy the surroundings—and, of course, for the popular rally quiz, whose questions are once again closely tied to the places visited and their stories. After the stop, the route leads back to Wismar via picturesque Klütz. There, the day comes to a close with good food, socializing, and the grand awards ceremony. Around 3 p.m., trophies, special prizes, and the top quiz scores will be awarded on the grounds of the phanTECHNIKUM—a festive conclusion to a day dedicated to automotive culture.
