Prora military base. Opposition and Resistance - Construction Soldiers in Prora 1964-1989/90
The exhibition was developed by the Prora Center in 2013/14, filling a gap in the narrative of the historical site in Prora. It is about the history of the construction soldiers in Prora, the men who refused to do military service with a weapon during the GDR era, belonged to the construction units of the National People's Army (NVA) and were stationed in Prora from 1964-1989/90. From 1982 onwards, Prora developed into the largest site for construction soldiers in the GDR. With the support of the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former GDR, several research and interview projects have investigated the history of the construction soldiers at the Prora site.
