If you want to experience how decorative candles are made, the Weaving and Candle Barn in Groß Laasch is just the place for you. Here, Christine Gabler handcrafts pretty light and warmth dispensers that create a cozy atmosphere not only in the cold season.

In the converted barn of a typical Mecklenburg farm, candles are produced in a wide variety of colors and shapes. The material Christine Gabler uses is mainly high-quality stearin based on palm oil, which ensures that the candles burn two to three times longer than conventional kerosene candles and also emit significantly less soot. Around 40 different shapes and 18 colors can be combined with each other, so that in the end every candle is unique. Of particular interest to visitors is the candle barn's offer of being able to do things themselves here. In the experience workshop, big and small candle makers are initiated into the art of candle casting and can create a pretty gift or a personal souvenir after only 15 minutes of expert guidance. In addition, the weaving and candle barn also produces vests, jackets, coats, scarves, belts or curtains using traditional handicraft techniques. In the show workshop, visitors get to know the old craft and learn a lot of interesting facts about the material properties of hand-spun wool, which is even said to have a healing effect.
The weaving and candle barn is open by appointment only.
