The small village of Waase on Ummanz picturesquely combines the idyllic charm of the Bodden, the island, and half-timbered architecture. The thatched roof of the Alte Küsterei houses both the tourist information office and a small national park exhibition. The colorful diversity of the island of Ummanz and the national park is the focus of the small exhibition, which was renovated in 2018.
After checking out the activity tips in the foyer, you’ll head straight into the heart of the reeds. There, animals big and small lurk in the thicket. It quickly becomes clear in the next room that running off-trail in the national park isn’t a good idea. Stunning nature photos and videos showcase the beauty and unique features of the protected area, including cranes, seals, and white-tailed eagles. Where is biodiversity greatest—or most endangered? Through a game, everyone can explore and weigh the options. Which landscape carries more weight? Where do most species live? The exhibition on biodiversity was created in cooperation with the OSTSEESTIFTUNG—as a project partner of the “Schatzküste” hotspot project—along with the Vorpommern National Park Authority and the municipality of Ummanz.
The free exhibition is self-explanatory, bilingual (German/English), and wheelchair accessible.
The exhibition is closed on holidays.
