On August 27, 1813, the poet Carl Theodor Körner, who fought as a volunteer of the Lützow Free Corps against Napoleon and lost his life in the process, was buried in Wöbbelin. The memorial commemorates the life of the famous writer and patriot.
As early as 1814, a monument was erected in honor of the writer and patriot on the spot where Theodor Körner is buried. He became famous above all for his songs in the fight for freedom against Napoleonic foreign rule and later became a patriotic identification figure.
Today, the memorial sites have a permanent exhibition commemorating Körner's life in a historical context and showing the political-ideological appropriation of his life by subsequent generations. The contradictions of German history are rarely shown as clearly as they are here: The exhibition "Theodor Körner. 1791 - 1813. poet and patriot.
