The cranes

The creator of these sculptures was the sculptor Joachim "Jo" Jastram. Born in Rostock in 1928, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in
Dresden and at the Weißensee School of Art in Berlin. After graduating, he lived and worked as a freelance artist in Rostock from 1956.
freelance artist in Rostock. The "Fountain of joie de vivre" on University Square in Rostock is one of his best-known works.
The crane sculptures for the residential area "Am Rosengarten" were created in the last years of the artist's life, who died in 2011.
